During the pandemic we developed a strategy for remote learning in the event of the school being forced to close, as well as for keeping in touch with children who were self-isolating.

We also offer other opportunities to help children continue their learning experience at home.

Paddington Bear

We have two Paddington Bears who love an adventure. To encourage the children’s understanding and awareness of the world around them, each Paddington Bear is keen to come home with your child for a few days.

The idea is that you can take Paddington home for a few days or a weekend and we ask that you take some photos, possibly with your child, and add a few comments and/or a drawing about what he got up to whilst he was with your family. Photos can be printed by the school to stock in the book.

Paddington could go on holiday with you, go the park or the shops or visit grandparents. Anything really, it’s up to you. The idea is to promote talk and discussion and not to send him away on lots of exotic holidays. He might like to visit the hospital or go for a swing at the park. Are you going shopping for new shoes, feeding the ducks? – take him along!

All the things you need are kept in a backpack. Please ask a member of staff if you would like Paddington to come for a visit.

Activity Bags

We have developed a range of Activity Bags which contain games, sports activities and jigsaws. The scheme operates throughout the year so that everyone will get a different activity each week.  Activity bags should be returned the following week.

Tapestry Learning Journals

We subscribe to an online platform called Tapestry. When your child starts at New Mills Nursery School parents will receive login details for this site. We use Tapestry to create Learning Journals for the children at the nursery school. Information and photos about what your child has been doing at school, are uploaded at the end of each half-term. You can also login to your child’s account at anytime and add your own photos or narrative about what your child has been doing at home.
